Safety is paramount when installing gate automation equipment. All automatic gates must conform to HSE machinery directive BS –EN12445 AND BS-EN 12453.
Automatic gates need to have two separate types of safety devices that will reverse the gate if an obstruction is detected during the opening and closing cycle to prevent injury to a pedestrian. A considerable number of older gates do not have these devices and the system should be upgraded to ensure the automatic gate meets the new standard.
It is equally important to use the services of a qualified expert when installing new automatic gates. Failure to exercise a duty of care may expose the specifier, client and site operator open to litigation in the event of an injury or accident.
All types of operators feature anti-crush clutches which can be adjusted for pressure. The amount of pressure needed depends on the style and weight of the gate and typical weather conditions in the area. Our engineers use Force Test Equipment to measure and produce detailed reports which analyse various pressure points on the gates to ensure they conform to the relevant directives and standards.
If you are unsure if your gate has the relevant safety features please contact us to speak to one of our gate safe installers who will be happy to advise you.
